What Do My Brain and Heart Say About the Technology?

We have talked about the development history of technology, computer assisted teaching and podcasting so far. But I haven't talked about my own experinece before and now, and whether I am going to use the technology or to what extend I am planning to use it.

When I was a child, the most interesting and appealing thing for me was the white boards. Until I went to high school, our board in the classroom was the classical green one. I used to get really excited to watch my teachers at the course that I went on weekends writing on white boards. Then, those are replaced with smart boards. They had their own special pencils and they had internet connection. However, its special pen and the boards used to have some diconnection problems during the lesson. Still, it was the first time I had a chance to watch videos, see different examples and activities via a technological device in a classroom. When I went to high school, we had more developed version of those boards. We had a very huge board with three parts. You could move the boards and use its green or white side, or you could use the smart board. You could present your power-point presentation via an usb on the smart board. Basically, I had a chance to see all kinds of boards used in the classrooms so far.

From my point of view, I am a big fan of white boards and projectors separately, which means I don't like those smart boards. I still like the idea of writing on the boards, or using boards to stick your posters on during a presentation or using them to draw something on. We need to be ready for any possible needs, so we need to be sure that we may need to use the board. Besides, I also support the use of projectors and I find them to be the most important device of the classroom. It's the best way to support both visual and audio learners. You can show many different examples, power point presentations prepared by different people, countless activities, songs or stories related to the context of the lesson, games, videos,... and the list goes on. Of course projectors are way too expensive when we compare them with the boardsa dn they a have a handicap against power cut. So the teachers need to be always prepared for unplanned situations. Luckily, most of the schools have enough funds for projectors and most of the schools are supplied with them by the government. We can say that until the next decade, there will be no classrooms left without a projector inside.

I plan to use the technology as much as possible in the future. I believe that if we want to reach to our students, we need to follow their way. They will be the ones who were born with a telephone in one hand. The ones who knew the technology before they knew their mothers. We can't separate those two greatest buddies from each other. On the contrary, we need to use what we have, to establish the maximized learning atmosphere. That's why the technology should become the main source rather than an assist. I hope to become an Educational Technology Specialist in the future. So I wish to be the one who will detect the needs of the future generation and come up with ideas and means to maximize their language learning processes. 

I used to think that it is the teacher who is there to solely teach. Then I thought maybe it is the students who need to learn by their own with the guidance of a teacher. Nowadays, I believe that its the technology which will maximize the learning, help children to find out who they are and their special needs and will be the guide of the teachers.
